This book is intense. First off the writing is absolutely superb. Shilts is able to go from the bureaucratic mess down to the personal story with ease and without sensationalism. Just finished "Understanding Comics" by Scott McCloud. It was on the must read list by the Whitman College Art Department. I found the book fun to read (it is done in comic book format) and very informative. McCloud does a really good break down of how humans deal with visual language. I just finished reading Goat Song: A Seasonal Life, a Short History of Herding, and the Art of Making Cheese by Brad Kessler. This was a very enjoyable book. Brad Kessler is a published author who along with his wife decide to raise goats and make cheese.
